Residential Services

The greatest need for many people living with mental illness is simply a clean, affordable and safe place to live. The Mental Health Association in Santa Barbara provides an array of housing for over 65 individuals with mental illness. We also offer loans for rent security deposits that are funded through grants.

Our new facility, Building Hope, consists of 51 bright and airy apartments that provide a safe, attractive and comfortable space for our residents to call home. Thirty-eight of the apartments are occupied by people living with mental health disabilities and the remaining 13 are designated for low-income downtown workers. We’re very proud to be able to provide this blessing to those who are the most vulnerable in our society.

We operate a licensed board and care home, Casa Juana Maria, that provides 24-hour care for six adults living with a chronic mental health disability. In addition, the Mental Health Association's Eleanor Apartments provide independent living for up to 16 mentally ill adults.

We offer other forms of residential support including our Housing Assistance Loan Program (HALP) which provides security deposit expenses, and our Care Closet which provides clothing and essential personal items for those living with mental illness.
